Cashel: Multicultural workshops

August 19th, 2010 · No Comments

This year’s multicultural workshops were a huge success, with 30 children attending to learn about Mexico, Poland, South Africa, Egypt and Romania. Every morning we learned some interesting facts about the chosen country, did some crafts, and played traditional games. We even attempted the Mexican Hat Dance and the Romanian Hora Dance. At the end of each workshop, there was some traditional food to be tasted. Each child also received a “multicultures @ your library” T-shirt, courtesy of Europe Direct.

July 22nd, 2010 · No Comments

Breda held the first Thurles Story-Sack Story-time in Barnardos in Littleton on Thursday 22nd July.  The excitement was palpable with children taking on the roles of little pigs, big angry wolves, horrible fearsome trolls and cute little billy goats gruff.  It was a huge success with 13 children having a lot of fun in a very lively environment.  To see more photographs of the children in action click here

Thurles Library French Camp a Success

Europe Direct Information Centre at Thurles Library held a very successful French camp for kids during July. 37 children, from 5 to 12 years, attended the camp for one hour each day from 12th to 16th July. Under the tuition of French native, Fanny Healy Bernard, they got to grips with their “un, deux, trois” whilst taking their own ‘Tour de France’. (more…)

July 16th, 2010 · No Comments

The Summer Book Bus has just completed it’s third week of service to five rural communities.  This free service for children aged up to 14 is proving to be a most popular and successful venture with over 300 children using the service to date and over 2000 books borrowed!  Children borrow up to 4 books per visit and can join The Summer Reading Tree programme which encourages children to read during the summer months.  The photograph shows children browsing the book bus stock.  Click on the link for FliKr to see children participating in story time with Breda in Templetuohy.

Nenagh: ‘Pre Shcool’ concert

June 28th, 2010 · No Comments

On Friday 28th May, children who were ‘graduating’ from the Rainbow Pre-School in Nenagh presented their end of year concert to family and friends in the library. Comprising all the poems, rhymes, songs and dances that the children had learned throughout the year the concert was a spectacularly colourful (and noisy) event. Proud parents didn’t seem to mind and in common with any hard bitten paparazzi they tried their best to capture the ‘money shot’ of their special celebrity! Others took no chances and filmed the entire show! Each year the concert raises nmoney for charity and this year was no exception with the Children’s Hospital in Crumlin being the beneficiary. Crumlin was chosen as two of the children attending the Rainbow pre-school had cause to thank this wonderful hospital for the tremendous care and support they received while attending there.
