Cashel: Multicultural workshops

August 19th, 2010 · No Comments

This year’s multicultural workshops were a huge success, with 30 children attending to learn about Mexico, Poland, South Africa, Egypt and Romania. Every morning we learned some interesting facts about the chosen country, did some crafts, and played traditional games. We even attempted the Mexican Hat Dance and the Romanian Hora Dance. At the end of each workshop, there was some traditional food to be tasted. Each child also received a “multicultures @ your library” T-shirt, courtesy of Europe Direct.

CashelLibrary: Exhibition of photography, ceramics jigsaws and craftwork by the Local Training Initiative Group in Spafield Resource Centre

August 17th, 2010 · No Comments

Cashel Library is hosting an exhibition of work produced by The Local Training Initiative  group in Spafield Resource Centre. Some members of the class are pictured at the launch

The programme is a project-based training and work experience programme carried out in the local community run by local community groups. The programme allows local communities to carry out valuable and necessary projects of benefit to their communities, while at the same time training participants in areas related to the project work so that they can go on to gain employment or progress to further training. The Local training initiative course runs at Spafield Family Resource Centre and delivers Fetac level 3 and level 4 modules in maths, communications, computers, crafts, photography and a range of other subjects. Cher Quinlan who teachs the craftwork, ceramics and photography  has put together a beautiful exhibition of the groups work. Spafield runs a large number of others courses. For more information on these contact Carmel Philips at 06263622. The exhibition was launched on Monday and 9th August and has been on display since. It is attracting great attention and is well worth a visit. They are no doubt a very talented bunch.
