FLYING FOR FRANKIE by PAULINE FISK
Two young girls growing up on opposite banks of the river form an unlikely bond. For Charis Watts, Frankie Bradley’s friendship is a thrilling counterpoint to a life of painful ordinariness and the worries of her own home life. When privileged Frankie becomes ill, Charis attempts to fulfil the most challenging of her friend’s dying wishes. Unfortunately, the book’s tendency to glamorise terminal illness makes for a mawkish read that may, of course, be just the thing for a particular type of pre-teenage girl.
