THE MAGICIAN’S ELEPHANT by KATE DICAMILLO
Newbery Medal-winner, DiCamillo has created a magical, lyrical and haunting tale about an orphaned boy at the end of the 19th century in a city called Baltese. The prose is formal and old fashioned, yet easy and flowing. The full-page black and white illustrations are mysterious and atmospheric. When an elephant magically appears, it brings both despair and hope. This is a story about trusting the unexpected, striving for the impossible, and about the effects and futility of war. A beautifully written and memorable story.
